20 Easy Ways to Participate in Random Acts of Kindess Week

Random Acts of Kindness Week is a growing movement that aims to inspire kindness and generosity in our communities. This year’s event is February 12-18. The mission is to “leave the world better than you found it and inspire others to do the same.”

We’re committed to participating in Random Acts of Kindness Week. We’re challenging you to do the same. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or organize a grand gesture. Simple actions are fine, and everyday acts of kindness and goodwill are especially encouraged.

Why Random Acts of Kindness?

It might seem odd for an insurance marketing website to talk about kindness. But at Ensurem, we believe that kindness is a necessity and helping others is our mission.

Plus, kindness is contagious. It has many positive effects on the brain that stimulate the need to “pay it forward” and help others in return. Kindness is also good for your health. It increases your lifespan by reducing anxiety, depression, and blood pressure.

In Your Community:

It can be easy to overlook and forget about the people you see every day. Take some time to acknowledge the individuals who make up your daily life with these heartfelt good deeds:

  1. Surprise your neighbors with cookies or baked goods. Who doesn’t love baked goods?! Save money on groceries by asking about discounts on bakery items or doing a little research before shopping for groceries. Plus, it’ll be a good conversation starter with your neighbors.
  2. Organize a trash pickup day at a local park or stream. The environment deserves our kindness as well. Take some time to give back to your local parks and neighborhoods by organizing a community cleanup day.
  3. Pay for the car behind you at the next road toll you encounter. This small kindness will go a long way in making someone feel special. Who knows, you could even start a chain reaction!
  4. Mow, rake or shovel snow for your neighbors. Especially if they are sick or elderly. Be the kind of neighbor you always wanted to have.
  5. Start a community book swap, or donate used books to the local library. Reading is a gift- give it to others through a community book swap. You can also sign up to be a reading buddy or tutor at a local school or daycare program.

At Work:

Work is where you spend the majority of your time. So you might as well make it a pleasant place to be. Do your part to spread kindness and joy around the office and make your workplace as enjoyable as possible.

  1. Bring in surprise coffee or donuts for your colleagues. Everyone could use a morning pick me up. Plus, they’ll be more likely to share with you in the future!
  2. Make a point to compliment people and thank them for their work. People love to feel appreciated. Take the time to record your thanks in an official memo or email.
  3. Take someone out to lunch. Preferably someone you don’t know very well. Make a point to get to know your colleagues on a personal level. You don't need to spend an arm and leg either. Check out these tips on saving money when dining out.
  4. Offer to help someone who looks overwhelmed. We’ve all been there. Going out of your way to help someone out is never forgotten. Do your part to be a good team player.
  5. Volunteer on a new committee or task force. Don’t dread the extra responsibility. See it as a way to meet new people, learn new things, and make a difference!

With Your Family:

Family is made up of the people we love the most. Unfortunately, they’re often the ones we tend to take for granted. These random acts of kindness can help you tell the people you love just how special they are.

  1. Take the time to call or send a letter to someone in your family who you don’t get to connect with very much. In today’s technology-ridden age, people crave the intimacy of a letter or phone call. Connect with the ones you love and go out of your way to tell them how much they care. Facebook updates don’t count!
  2. Offer to babysit for a family member with young children. Give them a night out without the kids. They’ll be especially grateful for some alone time.
  3. Plan a fun trip for your family. Travel is fun, exciting and creates happy memories that will last a lifetime.
  4. Purchase life insurance. Protect your family no matter what. There is no greater act of kindness than providing for your family. Life insurance helps you protect them after you’re gone.
  5. Do a chore that’s not typically yours. Take out the trash, empty the kitty litter, unload the dishwasher. It’s the little things that often make the biggest impact!
